James Coombs is a Republican candidate running for Montana Representative in House District 18. Coombs is a Christian, family man, veteran, and businessman. Coombs chose to enter the race to give citizens a better choice in our state legislature. “I am pro-life and pro-second amendment. I believe in a limited government and transparency, so people can control their government, not the other way around,” said Coombs. In the interest of that transparency, Coombs plans to set up town hall meetings to listen to people’s concerns, and inform them of the legislation that affects them. Coombs tells people, “If you have questions, visit with me, I will listen and answer.”

Coombs doesn’t support any proposal for a sales tax in Montana, because he knows if it’s ever implemented, it will never go away and just continue to rise. Regarding the Marijuana Tax Bill SB442, Coombs believes the money should go to benefit the counties, not go into the general fund. Given the chance, he would vote to override the governor’s veto and have the revenue used to lower the high property taxes. He would also support Veteran services at a more local level, placing more services and programs in smaller communities.

James Coombs was born in Rutland, Vermont in 1977, his family eventually moving to upstate New York. During his younger years he formed a hard work ethic, working in the stone quarries alongside his dad. He also learned to be giving, even if he didn’t have much to give. After high school, he joined the Air Force as a plumber, where he had the opportunity to travel the world. James was stationed in Spain, Italy, South Korea, and the Middle East.

He was eventually stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls where he met his wife, Danielle, who was in the same unit. They have a total of seven children. After serving honorably in the Air Force, Coombs started Shamrock Construction Services. In 2008, they moved to Great Falls to be closer to family and in 2018, they settled in Conrad. The Coombs opened a thrift store, Resurrected Thrift, in Conrad and a second store in Kalispell.

In his off time, Coombs enjoys spending time with his family, including 8 grandchildren. Jesus, family, community, and work are what he stands for.

Coombs found a passion for stepping into politics because he’s personally frustrated with the overreach of government and he has a desire to be a voice for those who feel the same. He has witnessed politicians work to gain power and enrich themselves on local, state-wide, and national levels, thus abandoning those they should serve, the people. Coombs desires to make a change for the people at the grassroots level. He will be the guy who gets the people’s job done. If you want an actual change in the government, a change in your hometown, vote for James Coombs on June 4, 2024!

Jerry Schillinger

Chairman, Montana Freedom Caucus PAC

Mr. Coombs:

Thank you for running in the primary election against Llew Jones. Jones is an arrogant bully!

He is not really a conservative but he has fooled and bullied and threatened the people in his district for a long time. He does the same thing in the legislature with legislators and staff.

Jones cares about nothing but his own power. He does not care who or what he hurts as long as he controls everything. His actions are consistently divisive. The more Republicans fight amongst themselves, the more power Jones has.

He leads his RINO groupies. When he wants his RINOs to vote with Republicans, they do and so the conservatives win. When he wants is groupies to vote with the Democrats, they do and so the democrats win and conservatives lose.

Again, Jones does not care about the Republican party or conservative values or the people he is supposed to represent.. HE CARES ABOUT HIMSELF. He has done a lot of damage to everything legislative.

He has no desire to bring people together or work together. If it looks like he cares, it is an ACT.

I hope you win!

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my support for Jay Coombs in his bid to become the House 18 Representative for the city of Conrad. I have had the pleasure to know Jay for almost 20 years. I first met Jay when he and I lived across from each other in Great Falls. Years later, in the summer of2012, I launched a community project called My Neighbor in Need. As a 501c3 non-profit organization we relied on the goodness of individuals and businesses to help us help our neighbors in need. I reached out to Jay and asked if he and his team of contractors would be willing to provide specific assistance when needed.

Jay whole-heartly jumped right in and helped us fulfill several need requests.

One need request stands out. A disabled woman living on a low, fixed income was in great need of a major roof repair. Jay went out there and after seeing the damage and hearing the lady's story he called me and offered to replace the entire roof at no charge!

Who does that?

I was just hoping he would make the repairs but Jay's compassion would not allow him to only do the repairs. Several days later a new roof was installed and all of us were moved to tears.

Jay's passion for his fellow citizens, his vision to see not only what is needed but why it is needed and his pride in delivering excellence is what we all could use more of in our lives.

Sincerely,
